Job description

About Glīd

Glīd Technologies builds vehicles and technology that move freight between roads and railways more cleanly, quickly, and efficiently. We were founded by a U.S. Army and Air Force veteran with SpaceX experience, and our team includes people from companies like Bombardier and Google.

Role Overview

As a CDL Field Operator, you'll drive and operate the GliderM - a heavy-duty Peterbilt truck that can run on both public roads and railroad tracks. Your job is to move shipping containers for railroad and industrial customers, keep the vehicle inspected and running well, and represent Glid at customer sites.

This role blends trucking and rail work. You don't need any rail experience to apply - we'll train you on everything you don't already know.

Key Responsibilities

What you’ll do

  • Drive and operate the GliderM on both roads and rail tracks.
  • Load and unload 20-foot shipping containers using the truck's built-in lift system (rated up to 50,000 lbs).
  • Switch the vehicle between road mode and rail mode following our step-by-step procedures.
  • Inspect the truck, lift, and rail wheels before, during, and after each trip.
  • Log your trips, loads, and any issues in real time using EZRA-1SIX, our mobile app for tracking daily work.
  • Coordinate with railroad staff to safely get clearance onto the tracks.
  • Handle basic field maintenance and repairs (mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic).
  • Help our engineering team improve the vehicle by reporting how it performs in the field.
  • Stay ready for travel to customer sites, test locations, and pilot projects.

Work Environment & Travel

This is a travel-heavy role based out of Riverside, CA. Expect multi-day and multi-week trips to customer sites, rail yards, ports, and industrial facilities. Work is outdoors and in active industrial settings, in all weather.

We provide the required safety gear: hi-vis vest, hard hat, steel-toed boots, gloves, and eye protection.

Requirements

What you need

  • Valid CDL Class A with the right endorsements for the cargo and routes.
  • A current medical card for commercial driving.
  • A clean driving record.
  • Willingness to complete standard commercial driver drug and alcohol screening.
  • General mechanical know-how (vehicle systems, hydraulics, and electronics).
  • Comfort using apps and digital tools to manage your daily work.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work well in a fast-paced, hands-on environment.

Nice To Have (Not Required)

  • Experience with rail or dual-mode vehicles.
  • Experience with lift or crane-equipped trucks.
  • A background in railroad switching operations.
  • Welding, metal fabrication, or machine shop skills.
  • Prior military or industrial field experience.
  • Experience keeping driver logs.

Training - No Rail Experience Needed

We provide all required training and certifications before you operate on your own, including:

  • On-track safety and railroad operating rules.
  • Full hands-on training for the GliderM - driving, the lift system, rail wheels, and switching between modes.
  • Certification on the EZRA-1SIX app.
  • Ongoing re-certification for as long as you work with us - fully covered by Glīd.
